NILES - Former Southwestern Michigan College baseball player and coach David Sidenbender has stepped down as Brandywine's basketball coach the school has announced.
Sidenbender will remain the Bobcats' baseball coach.
Sidenbender, who has coached the basketball team the past three years, said that he is stepping aside for personal reasons, which includes spending more time at home with his three small children.
The veteran coach noted that the lack of success this last year did not figure into the decision to resign.
Sidenbender has a 20-46 records as the Bobcats' basketball coach, including a 1-20 mark this past season.
In all, Sidenbender spent six seasons coaching basketball at Brandywine.
He had a year of coaching the freshman squad, plus two years as a varsity assistant, before taking over the head coaching position when Travis Hannah left Brandywine for Oregon-Davis.
A return to basketball wasn't ruled out by Sidenbender, who has already turned his full attention to coaching the baseball team.
According to Bobcat athletic director Vance Stratton, the position will be posted.
Anyone interested in the Brandywine postion should contact Stratton at 683-4800, ext. 207.
