Student choreographers compete during performance

Southwestern Michigan College's fine and performing arts division is presenting a spring concert of dance on Friday, April 1, at 7:30 p.m. in the theatre of the Dale A. Lyons Building on the Dowagiac campus. There will also be a free matinee at 11:30 a.m.
The concert will feature student and faculty choreographed works presented by the SMC dance ensemble and dance students.
During the concert student choreographers will be competing for the Emerging Choreographer Award, which recognizes outstanding high school and collegiate choreographers. The competition will be judged by the following panel of dance professionals: Marcia Heintzberger, dance instructor at Indiana University South Bend; Wendy Cornish, professor emerita at Western Michigan University; and Elizabeth Andrews, arts education coordinator for Berrien County Intermediate School District.
Student choreographers include: Dowagiac Union High School students Ann O'Keefe and Sarah Ostyn of Dowagiac, Saint Mary's College student Brighid Hanrahan of Granger, and SMC students Krystal Harfert of Sawyer, Whitney Criswell of Cassopolis, Joanna Czarnecki of Berrien Springs, Katie Radewald of Dowagiac, Nichole Long of Dowagiac, Bridget Berry of Granger, Brittany Jakeway of Bridgman, Brian Harrison of Dowagiac, Nicki Hanner of Osceola and Lisa Schilling of Eau Claire.
Tickets are $7, $5 for seniors. Students aged 18 and under are free. All seats are general admission. To reserve a ticket, contact the SMC box office at (269) 782-1280 or (269) 687-1600, extension 1280.
