Dowagiac City Council Monday night accepted the low bid from RS Technical Services of Lowell and awarded a $61,040 contract for the chlorination/dechlorination gas to liquid conversion project at the wastewater treatment plant.
This is one of the incremental improvements proposed to the plan to improve its safety, capacity and efficiency.
The project involves eliminating chlorine gas used to disinfect effluent at the plant before it is discharged and converting to use of liquid disinfectant.
A second bid came in at more than $71,200.
The chlorine gas system was eliminated at the Water Treatment Plant during 2001 renovations.
