Despite severe vandalism to the dugouts at Rotary Park, Dowagiac athletic director Greg Younger said Monday that the varsity baseball team will continue to play and practice at the facility.
While the varsity will continue to play at Rotary Park, the junior varsity baseball team will play its games and practice at Russom Fields on Yaw Street.
The Senior Division field of Dowagiac Little League, which was built in 1999, will be the home of the Chieftain junior varsity this coming season.
According to Younger, this provides Dowagiac with another facility to practice and play contests at.
As a result, the varsity soccer team will now practice at Chris Taylor-Alumni Field, allowing its current field at Dowagiac Union High School to be utilized for matches only.
Wolverine Conference
Younger has had two meetings with the Wolverine Conference in preparation for the Chieftains switch a year from now.
The Wolverine Conference will hold another meeting prior to spring break.
Dowagiac, which will leave the Big 16 Conference following the 2005-06 season, will try to pick up as many Wolverine Conference teams for next year's non-conference schedule as possible.
Dowagiac is already several of those schools on its current schedule, but would like to add some more.
Dowagiac will be facing South Haven, Allegan, Paw Paw, Plainwell, Vicksburg and Three Rivers this spring in several sports.
Dowagiac will play South Haven in baseball, soccer and golf, Allegan in soccer, Three Rivers in baseball, softball, tennis and golf, Paw Paw in track and tennis, Plainwell in track, Allegan in golf and Vicksburg in golf.
