NILES - Community and local business mourn the loss of two Buchanan residents who were a big part also of Niles.
Mike and Dorothy Jarman lost their lives in a accident that occurred at the corner of U.S. 12 and Third Street in Niles on Monday.
Michael "Pizza Mike" Jarman worked at Pete's Patio located on N. Fifth St. for the past 26 years, and Dorothy worked there part-time on and off over the past few years doing prep work in the kitchen.
Mike started out at Pete's as a dishwasher and then he moved onto being a runner, doing various odd jobs around the restaurant. He then ended up becoming a pizza maker.
The Jarman's left behind Michael's son Christopher who is a senior at Buchanan High School and his sister Heather 15, as well as Dorothy's two daughters who live in Buchanan and South Bend, Ind.
The Jarmans' eighth wedding anniversary was on Valentines Day.
Michael Jarman died at the scene of the accident on Monday and Dorothy died a few hours later at the hospital. The couple's car was struck by a semi-truck at the intersection.
Family members are having a hard time deciding on funeral arrangements, due to financial problems.
They are asking that any contributions to the family for this purpose be sent to Christopher Jarman at 4205 Hills Haven Lot 2, Buchanan, MI 49107.
Visitation for Michael and Dorothy Jarman will be today, from 6-8 p.m. and funeral services will be Friday, March 4 at 1:30 p.m. Both take place at Swem Funeral Home, 301 W. Front St. Buchanan.
