NILES - Niles Community Schools celebrate diversity.
The month of February may be designated National Black History Month, but at Niles High School they celebrate it all year round through their curriculum.
Black History Month is a way to get all people to recgonize the past effects of slavery, segregation, racism, and so on," Smith said.
The way in which Black, Native American, European, American and the histories of many other cultures is incorportated into the curriculum at Niles High School is through History Alive.
With this program the teacher isn't just locked into teaching what the text book is presenting, they are able to go to other sources and to change the order in which the material is presented in order to reach the students better.
