EDWARDSBURG - The Edwardsburg Eddies were thinking upset Friday night, but the Coloma Comets had them thinking otherwise.
Both teams opened the game up with tight defenses, which did not allow the first basket of the game until the 6:18 mark by Comets' Milo Jeffries.
The Eddies took a very early 5-2 lead, but Jeffries two "threes," along with a Chad Adams "three", gave Coloma an 11-7 lead.
The Eddies went on an 6-0 run to cut the Comets' lead down to one point, and followed with a bucket to take a 17-15 lead at the end of the first.
Eddies' Doug Shuttleworth had eight first quarter points and Coloma's Jefferies had 10.
The Comets jumped out to an early 20-19 lead to begin the second. The Eddies regained a 24-23 lead on a Nick Roth basket plus free throw shot. The Comets once again tied the game at 28-28 midway through the second. Eddies recaptured a 33-28 advantage until the Comets hit back-to-back jumpers to put them down by only one point.
A couple of baskets later, the Eddies' Matt Horvath hit a jumper late in the quarter to send the Eddies into the locker room down 38-39.
Both teams opened the second half with back to back "threes".
Coloma opened up a 52-45 lead. Then the Comets went on a three-point barrage. They made five three-point buckets in the quarter to jump out to a 71-56 cushion at the end of the period.
Comets' Sebastian Lewis scored 14 third quarter points as did the Eddies' Roth.
The Eddies were outscored by the Comets in the quarter 32-18.
The Comets began the fourth quarter with back-to-back "threes" that lead to a 20-point lead.
The Comets made four three pointers for the quarter. Ewardsburg's Roth scored 11 fourth quarter points, but it was not enough as the Comets came away with a 92-76 conference road victory.
Roth led the Eddies with 36 points and Shuttleworth added 13.
Jeffries paced the Comets with 24 points and 13 boards, Tyler LaVanway had 17 points, and Jermain Murphy also had 17 points to go along with 20 rebounds.
