CASSOPOLIS - Union High School graduate Beth Franz was introduced to the Board of Commissioners Thursday as the swine specialist for seven counties, including Cass.
Michigan State University Extension Cass County Director Dan Razjer said she graduated from MSU in 2003, specializing in swine management.
Franz, daughter of Dowagiac educators Bob Franz, Justus Gage principal, and Pat Franz, Kincheloe teacher, fulfilled an internship with one of the nation's largest swine operations in North Carolina.
Last year in Minnesota she headed up a farrowing operation for the fourth-largest U.S. operation.
Her coverage area includes Berrien, Van Buren, Kalamazoo, St. Joseph, Allegan and Ottawa counties.
That means, Razjer said, "She'll be covering probably 80 percent of the hog production in Michigan.
