Even without rocket stories for "One Book One Community," certain local bodies orbit around Dowagiac District Library on Tuesdays for story time with Alma Adams.
For another 3-year-old, Luke Staten, it's "Poppy Day," a weekly outing with grandpa Jerry Staten. The retired teacher follows up the library routine with lunch and perhaps a museum visit.
Everybody seems to be on a first-name basis as they munch on "space food" (freeze-dried fruits and Gummy Worms) and spread out at an activity table to decorate paper rockets.
Two little girls dressed in pink look like sisters, but Juliana Stanger, 3 1/2, is with her mom, Melissa, and Miranda Ironside, 3, is with her mom, Debbie.
Debbie's son, David, listens to Adams read with his stuffed dog perched on his head.
