CASSOPOLIS - The snowstorm that dumped 12 inches of snow in Cass County on Jan. 21 was costly to the Cass County Road Commission.
On Thursday during a road commission board meeting, Engineer-Manager Joseph Bellina III said the approximate cost to clear Cass County roads that weekend was $50,000.
He said the winter has not been as cold as normal in having to deal with all the problems of clearing roads.
However, crews spent all of January on the roads about every day dealing with slush and ice, he said.
The board in other matters incorporated Sundance Drive in the subdivision of Chicago Trails Farms in Ontwa Township, Phase I, into the Cass County road system.
The .51 miles of road is located west of the Village of Edwardsburg on U.S. 12.
The board will open bids on wheel loaders at 9 a.m. on March 17.
Financial Director Lois Jacobson and Clerk Grace Chester were authorized to attend the Southern Michigan Road Commission Clerks Association meeting on Feb. 9 in Marshall.
Road Superintendent Steve Northrup and Shop Superintendent Gary Rohacs were authorized to attend a Fleet Maintenance and Vendor Trade Show May 24 -26 at Shanty Creek.
