KALAMAZOO - The National Association of Realtors has presented Congressman Fred Upton (R-St. Joseph) with its Legislative Leadership Award for the 108th Congress.
Awarded every two years, the tribute recognizes outstanding leadership in supporting legislation to help more families achieve the American dream of homeownership.
Upton, one of 16 members of Congress to receive the award, was presented with the plaque during a luncheon in Kalamazoo.
Upton was a cosponsor to H.R. 1102, legislation to establish the National Affordable Housing Trust Fund. This bill would assist in providing real solutions to the affordable housing crisis, establishing a fund to preserve decent, safe, and affordable housing for low-income families.
In addition to Upton, the honorees included U.S. Sens. Wayne Allard (R-Colo.), Jon Corzine (D-N.J.), Richard Shelby (R-Ala.) and Reps. Judy Biggert (R-Ill.), Ken Calvert (R-Calif.), Barney Frank (D-Mass.), Katherine Harris (R-Fla.), Ruben Hinojosa (D-Texas), Darlene Hooley (D-Ore.), Ernest Istook (R-Okla.), Paul Kanjorski (D-Pa.), Bob Ney (R-Ohio), Anne Northup (R-Ky.), Brad Sherman (D-Calif.) and Chris Smith (R-N.J.).
