Long on ambition

CASSOPOLIS - With Cass County General Fund expenses hovering above $12 million for the past five years and 50,000 residents, government spending amounts to some $250 per resident.
The "lion's share" of $12,682,956 in unaudited 2004 expenses went for public safety (39.8 percent), general government (25.2 percent) and the judiciary (22.1 percent). The Prosecutor's Office is under general government.
