CASSOPOLIS - With Cass County General Fund expenses hovering above $12 million for the past five years and 50,000 residents, government spending amounts to some $250 per resident.
Taylor, former chairman of the Woodlands board of directors, said he believes the key to containing costs is, "We're doing it ourselves and not farming stuff out."
The "lion's share" of $12,682,956 in unaudited 2004 expenses went for public safety (39.8 percent), general government (25.2 percent) and the judiciary (22.1 percent).
The Prosecutor's Office is accounted for under general government.
