NILES - The goal for Saturday's Bra-ndywine "Snowed Out" Team Duals was simple. Get a look at No. 8 ranked South Haven.
Dowagiac's varsity wrestling team got more than a look at the rated Rams as the two schools squared off in the opening round of the tournament.
What was expected to be a close match turned out to be a blowout as the Chieftains romped to a 49-24 victory over the Rams.
Dowagiac finished the day 5-0 while South Haven finished 4-1.
Buchanan went 3-2 in its five matches with Brandywine going 2-3, St. Joseph's "B" team going 1-4 and Lawrence going 0-5.
Dowagiac (22-7) defeated Buchanan 36-31 in the second round, defeated St. Joseph 73-0 in the third round, defeated the host Bobcats 69-3 in the fourth round and defeated Lawrence in the fifth round 78-6.
Going undefeated on the day for the Chieftains were Kyle Bennett (171), who picked up his 100th career victory in the second round against Buchanan, Jason Krukowski (130), Jeromy Northrop (145), Justin Desjardin (152), Shawn Rawson (189), Matt Behnke (215) and Tony Stewart (275).
Northrop should pick up his 100th career victory at some point this week as he now has 98 career victories.
Going undefeated for South Haven were Tyler Dotson (112), Andress Alcauter (135), Michael Jackson (140) and Drakkar Klose (160).
South Haven is now 27-2 on the year.
The Dowagiac junior varsity and varsity wrestling teams will travel to Coloma on Tuesday to make up a previously postponed match.
Due to the fact that Coloma has a home basketball game, the match will be wrestled at the old midlde school by the football field.
