NILES - In a match that featured all pins except at 275-pounds, Buchanan scored a 52-34 Lakeland Conference victory over Brandywine Wednesday night.
Buchanan picked up pin falls from David Knisely (103), Todd Taylor (112), Nick Wheetley (125), Travis Reith (130), David Medlin (140), Dan Toth (145), Austin Ferris (160) and Jim Connors (215).
Ryan Carrigan won by major decision.
Winning by pin fall for the Bobcats were Pat Van Laere, Joel Perry, Kyle Jones and Adam Simons.
Knisely pinned Andrew Libera in 1:10, Taylor pinned Ryan Horner in 30 seconds, Wheetley pinned Adam Saltsman in 1:18, Reith pinned Lance Taliaffero in 5:26, Medlin pinned Jordan Bruni in 3:13, Toth pinned Justin Price in 1:25, Ferris pinned Eugene Miller in 3:39 and Connors pinned Jeremy Hechtl in 1:15.
Carrigan won 11-2 over Jeremy Howell.
Brandywine's VanLaere pinned John Beechler in 5:01, Perry pinned A.J. Long in 5:23, Jones pinned Shane Collins in 1:55 and Simons pinned Ryan Harrington in 1:26.
In junior varsity matches, Buchanan's Jeff Kruckrow decisioned Erin Sinkoff, 10-0; Josh Huffman of Brandywine pinned Matt Wreggelsworth in 5:22; Buchanan's Tyler Mitchell pinned Nate Smith in 1:42; Buchanan's Cody Shepard pinned Jonathon Brock in 5:36; and Aaron Edquist of Brandywine pinned Jake Allen in 2:35.
Dowagiac will compete in the Brandywine "Snowed Out" Team Duals on Saturday in Niles.
The Chieftains and Bobcats, along with Buchanan, Covert, Lawrence and South Haven will compete in a team tournament which is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.
This tournament was put together as a result of tournaments last due to a snow storm on Jan. 22.
In the opening round of the tournament, Dowagiac will wrestle South Haven, Brandywine will wrestle Covert and Lawrence will wrestle Buchanan.
Dowagiac will take on Buchanan in the second round, while Brandywine will face South Haven and Covert will face Lawrence.
In the third round, Dowagiac will wrestle Covert, Brandywine will wrestle Lawrence and Buchanan will wrestle South Haven.
Dowagiac and Brandywine will square off in the fourth round, while Buchanan will wrestle Covert and South Haven will wrestle Lawrence.
Brandywine and Buchanan will meet in the fifth round, as will Dowagiac and Lawrence. South Haven will face Covert in its final match.
Admission is $4 for adults and $2. A family pass is available for $12.
No passes of any kind will be accepted for this tournament.
