BUCHANAN - When you miss all of your shots and are getting outrebounded on the boards, chances are you're going to have a bad outcome.
That's exactly what happened to the Brandywine basketball team Tuesday night. The Bobcats traveled to Buchanan to face the Bucks for a Lakeland Conference match-up, losing 63-33.
The loss now puts the Bobcats at 0-9, 1-13 overall.
Gordon Bryant was the talk of the first quarter, scoring 15-of-27 points for Buchanan. Tony Robinson also brought in seven points for the first.
Brandywine could not hit a basket no matter how hard it tried. It was able to get some open shots, but the attempt to make a basket was unsuccessful.
Towards the end of the first the entire gym was cheering for the Bobcats to score, including Buchanan fans, but the cheers weren't enough and Buchanan had a 27-0 lead going into the second.
P.J. Pollack started out the second by hitting his first of two, 3-pointers for the night for the Bucks. Jeff Kyles, Jared Rusher and Bryant also added points to the Bucks' score as they took a 41-0 lead halfway through the quarter.
Zach Bennett made the first basket for Brandywine 4:37 into the second taking the score to 41-2. Bill Bussey, Matt Wieger and Matt Beaver were also able to score two points each for the Bobcats, making the score 47-8 going into the second half.
Brandywine was able to come around in the third quarter and finally hit some shots. After Kyles' four points for Buchanan to start out the quarter, Wieger hit his first of four, 3-pointers for the night followed by two from Beaver for the Bobcats. Wieger was able to hit another three in the third as well as Mike Nagy. Jason Kuntz, Taylor Johnson and Brian Shannon were the only other Bucks to score in the third.
Buchanan still had the upper hand going into the fourth 57-19.
Shannon hit two points for the Bucks to start the final quarter, but Wieger hit two-three's back-to-back to put Brandywine back on the boards 59-25.
Bennett and Nagy scored for the Bobcats and Ely hit the last basket for Brandywine in the fourth. Jimmy Washington and Nate Brewer were also able to add points to Buchanan's final score 63-33.
Buchanan was able to play all of its team members and they all contributed one way or another. Guys who don't get to see a lot of the court were able to get in there and help out the Bucks.
The win takes Buchanan to 8-1 in league play, 12-1 overall. The Bucks remain in first place in the LAC and are ranked No. 6 in the latest Associated Press Poll.
The Buchanan JV team was also able to pick up a win against Brandywine 44-36. Terrill Tucker had 20 points for the Bucks and Cody Smith had 11 for Brandywine.
Brandywine will host Cassopolis at home Friday night. Tip off is set to begin at 7:30 p.m. Friday is also Branywine's homecoming.
