ST. JOSEPH - The Dowagiac varsity volleyball team went winless Monday night at the St. Joseph Quad Tournament.

The Lady Bears made short work of the Chieftains in the opening match of the quad tournament.

Brittany Bruens had 10 assists for the Chieftains, who also got five digs and a block from Kim Luthringer.

Vs. Three Rivers
The Wildcats, one of two Wolverine Conference squads at the quad Monday night, defeated the Chieftains, 14-25 and 21-25.
Dowagiac got behind early in the first game and was unable to make up ground on the Lady Wildcats.
Three Rivers built an 18-8 lead before the serving of Carlie Foura, Whitney Taylor and Ashley Muehlberger.
Dowagiac was able to cut the lead to 18-11 behind a pair of serves from Ashley Urbanski, but would get not closer.
In the second game the Chieftains were much more competitive.
The game was tied several times before Three Rivers edged ahead 19-16.
The Lady Wildcats were able to hold onto that advantage even though Dowagiac kept coming back.
Anne O'Keefe served up three consecutive service winners, including an ace, to cut the Three Rivers' lead to 23-21.
That would be as close as Dowagiac would get as Alycia Davenport drove home the winner with a solid kill.
Brittney Reist led Dowagiac with eight kills and six digs.
The Chieftains also got three kills each from Kim Luthringer, Jill Billingham and Urbanski.
Lindsay Tyler and Luthringer had five and four digs respectively.

Vs. South Haven
The first game of the South Haven match was close for a while.
The Lady Rams, however, broke open the contest after the match was tied at 6-6.
South Haven led 19-10 following five consecutive winners from Chelsea Onken.
Dowagiac was never able to mount much of a comeback in the opening game as it struggled offensively.
In the second game the Chieftains grabbed a quick 3-0 lead behind the serving of Urbanski.
South Haven then blew the match open, building a 23-7 advantage at one point.
Reist led Dowagiac with five kills, while Urbanski had four assists and Bruens three.
Reist also led the team in digs wit three. Urbanski finished with two digs.
Dowagiac will now host Lakeshore on Wednesday in a make up match from last week.

The freshmen and junior varsity squads will get the evening under way at 6 p.m.
Dowagiac will also make up the New Buffalo Invitational which was snowed out two weeks ago.
The tournament is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. with pool play.
