Brandywine spikers win second straight tournament

BUCHANAN - The Brandywine varisty volleyball team can add another acomplishment to itsr record this year. Not only is it undefeated so far in conference, but this is the Bobcats' second tournament win, receiving thier first at the Gobles Invitational at the beginning of the month.
Brandywine faced Niles in the semi-finals and defeated it 25-21, 22-25, 15-10. Three Rivers played Berrien Springs to make its way to the final game.
Brandywine was able to claim the championship game with a 25-22, 25-17 win over the Wildcats.
Emily Whitney had 118 assists, 47 digs, 26 kills and 15 aces. Nikki Cooper had 50 kills, 38 digs and nine aces. Katie Tuohy had 34 kills, 17 aces and 16 blocks. Kendra Zache had 28 kills and Kelly Zache had 39 digs for the Bobcats.
Niles won three games in its pool play and split one with Buchanan. The Vikings won the Maroon Pool with a 7-1 record. They defeated Benton Harbor 25-14, 22-25, River Valley 25-18, 25-15, New Buffalo 25-12, 25-17 and split with Buchanan 25-19, 14-25.
Melissa Oleson was selected for all-tournament team.
Amber Peters had 65 assists, 36 points, six aces, six digs, two kills and two blocks for the Vikings. Karly Kennedy had 32 points, 13 kills, 14 digs and 11 aces. Claire Molnar had 22 points, 17 digs, 16 kills and four aces. Melissa Olsen had 26 kills, four blocks. Dagmar Hoffman had 14 kills, five blocks. Ashley Pingel had 30 digs, 8 points. Sam Brawley had 22 points, 18 digs, nine aces and Kaylee Bonner had 10 points, six digs and three aces for the Vikings.
Buchanan beat Eau Claire in its first game of the tournament 25-21, 25-20 and split with Niles 19-25, 25-20, River Valley 13-25, 25-21 and Benton Harbor 24-25, 25-23. The Bucks lost to Brandywine in the quarterfinals 17-25, 20-25.
Buchanan lost both of their setters, Jaclyn Mummaw and Emily Ross, during the River Valley game due to injuries.
Hayley Burks was selected for all-tournament team for the Bucks.
Burks had 20 kills, 20 digs and four aces. Jill Woodrick had 18 digs, nine kills, three aces. Stacy Borr had 21 kills, nine blocks and four aces. Heather Lentz had 25 dogs, 13 aces and nine kills. Katrina Weldy had six blocks, six kills, Mummaw had 30 assists and Ross had 15 assists and five aces for Buchanan.
Niles travels to Coloma tonight. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
Brandywine will face Buchanan on Wednesday at Buchanan at 7 p.m.
