For the fourth year the barbershop quartets from the Lighthouse Chorus in Niles will be available to present singing valentines for the Feb. 14 holiday.
Lighthouse Chorus Michiana Metro Chapter is a group of 37 men ranging in age from 20 to about 80 who primarily sing barbershop music. The group has been around for five years and its members are from Berrien, Cass and Van Buren counties in Michigan and St. Joseph, Elkhart and La Porte counties in Indiana.
The group is currently ranked in the top three barbershop groups in all of Michigan and their goal is to be the top ranked acappella group in Southwest Michigan and Northern Indiana. They travel all over the area doing performances and have even gone to Ohio to perform.
The group is also always looking for new members. Hanover says you don't really even have to know how to sing or read music to join the group. "We are always willing to teach people how to sing" said Hanover, who is a vocal instructor himself.
The fee for the valentines is $45. That includes two sweetheart songs being sung along with a valentines greeting and a flower from the person ordering the greeting.
Reservations are necessary to insure the quartets can meet all booked engagements Hanover said . Reservations can be made by calling (269) 465-4428 or sending an e-mail to genehan-over@juno.com. The group is also available to perform at a number of other locations and functions. If interested use the contact information listed above.
The quartets can pereform the greeting at any home, business, office, hospital or other Michiana location.
Proceeds from the valentines will be used to support ongoing activities of the chapter, which is a non-profit organization.
