BUCHANAN - Hockey? Around here? Yes it's true! Buchanan's floor hockey league started its season Sunday at Buchanan High School. Buchanan is the only town in this area to offer floor hockey.
This is the 32nd year for the league, which is made up of 28 teams with anywhere from nine to 11 girls per team.
The league is made up of two divisions. Elementary hockey is made up of third, fourth and fifth grades and middle school hockey is made up of sixth, seventh and eigth grades.
All players are from the Buchanan school district.
The All-Star team is made up of players hand picked by coaches.
The team travels to cities like Lansing, Hudson and Battle Creek, where floor hockey was invented, one city in Ohio and a few in Canada.
Some of the best players in the state will be playing in a tournament hosted by the All-Star team at the high school March 11, 12 and 13.
All games for the hockey league are played on Saturday mornings beginning at 8:30 a.m. and last throughout the day.
