Andy Welch, a junior at Niles High School, is a member of the Bridgman Bee's men's varsity swim team.
The team, which is coached by Matt Binns of Niles, competes in the SMAC Conference. Students from Bridgman, Lakeshore and Niles compise the small, but very talented 12 man team.
Last Tuesday, the Bee's traveled to Loy Norrix and won eight of 11 events, but lost the meet in a very close score. Welch paced the team with firsts in his individual events, the 200 IM and the 100 M backstroke along with firsts in his team events, the 200 IM and 200 M freestyle relays.
On Thursday the team traveled to Kalamazoo Central and competed very well. Welch again led his team with firsts in the 200 IM, 100 M backstroke and was a member of the winning 200 IM relay team.
The team returns to action today at Sturgis.
