Quick start leads Berrien past Cass

BERRIEN SPRINGS - The host Shamrocks got off to a quick start and then held on as they uphended Cassopolis 64-54 in a Lakeland Conference contest.
Berrien Springs jumped out to a 22-8 first quarter lead and then held on over the final three quarters.
The Rangers (3-4 overall, 1-3 Lakeland Conference) cut into the Shamrocks' lead but could not overcome the early deficit. Cassopolis outscored Berrien Springs 14-9 in the second quarter to cut the halftime lead to 31-22.
Cassopolis outscored Berrien Springs (3-3, 2-2) 17-15 in the third quarter to close the gap to 46-39 heading into the final eight minutes of play.
Cassopolis, however, was outscored 18-17 in the fourth quarter as the Shamrocks held on for the victory.
John Young led the Rangers with 12 points, all of which came on three-pointers. Kevin Luckey and Will Loux both scored eight points for Cass, which got six points each from Dan Stanage and Neal Bullocks.
Berrien Springs was led by Shelby Wood's game-high 23 points. Trey Lockett added 19 points and Vincent Ruhumuliza 12 points.
Tuesday night's game at Constantine was postponed due to the fact that Constantine canceled school.
