Vikings win junior varsity volleyball tournament

Niles captured the Edwardsburg junior varsity volleyball tournament championship on Saturday with a victory over the host Eddies.
Dowagiac split three of its matches and were swept in its other two.
The Chieftains split with Cassopolis, 21-13 and 20-21; split with Niles, 21-19 and 10-21; was swept by Buchanan, 17-21 and 12-21; was swept by Brandywine, 20-21 and 7-21; and split with Edwardsburg, 16-21 and 21-15.
Dowagiac (4-8-4) was led by Jill Wiesemes with three kills in its match against Cassopolis. Kate Stuppy and Amber Clark each had two kills.
Wiesemes also led the team in assists with four. Stuppy and Clark led the team in aces with four each. Stuppy also had three digs, while Calie Daniels had a block.
Against Niles, Daniels, Wiesemes and Stuppy each had two kills. Wiesemes finished three assist and three aces, while Clark also had three aces. Stuppy finished with nine digs.
Sarah Shelton led Dowagiac with two kills against Buchanan. Wiesemes had two assists. Samantha Harris finished with four aces. Daniels had a solo block.
In their match against Brandywine, the Chieftains were led by Shelton and Daniels with three kills each. Wiesemes added three assists, while Stuppy had two aces. Shelton finished with two solo blocks.
In its final match of the tournament, Stuppy led the team with two kills, two aces and two blocks.
Dowagiac also got four assists from Wiesemes, two aces from Shelton and three blocks from Daniels. Shelton also had a block.
