CASSOPOLIS - Sheriff Joseph M. Underwood Jr. advised that deputies from the Cass County Sheriff's Office assisted an Illinois man who fell through the ice on Diamond Lake over the weekend.
Robert Leonard, 42, of Mokena, Ill., was at his summer home on Howell Drive on Diamond Lake when one of his dogs went out onto the ice and fell through.
Leonard then went out onto the ice to rescue his dog, but while doing so he fell through, too.
Prior to deputies arriving on scene, Leonard was able to pull himself and his dog to safety.
Leonard was treated on scene by Dowagiac ambulance service and refused transport to the hospital.
Leonard and his dog were not injured.
Cass County deputies were also assisted at the scene by the Cassopolis Police Department.
