The Cassopolis/Vandalia Chamber of Commerce, Southwestern Michigan College, Neighbors, and The Trading Post will sponsor the Third Annual Stone Lake Ice Fishing Derby on Saturday, Jan. 22, from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. There is an entry fee of $20 and all contestants must register prior to the start of the derby.
Registration will be held at Marcello's Pizzeria, 525 South Broadway, Cassopolis from Tuesday, Jan. 18 to Saturday, Jan. 22.
First prize winner in each category will receive $600, provided there is a minimum of 150 contestants participating.
Individual cash prizes will be awarded for longest fish in three categories: Bluegill, Crappie and Perch. All fish will be measured at Marcello's Pizzeria and prize distribution will follow measurements. All fishing must be conducted on Stone Lake and all fish must be submitted live to qualify for prizes.
Plenty of parking is available at Marcello's Pizzeria and free coffee and hot chocolate will be provided to contestants.
The first 150 contestants will also receive a free "Stone Lake Ice Fishing Derby" scarf. Fishing is contingent on suitable fishing and weather conditions.
