Chieftains wrestlers win sixth consecutive match against Tigers

The Dowagiac varsity wrestling team won its sixth straight match Wednesday night as it defeated host Benton Harbor, 57-15.
The Chieftains (6-2) have not lost a match since opening the season 0-2.
Dowagiac used seven pins to dispose of the Tigers in its Big 16 Conference West Division opener.
The Chieftains got pins from Taylor Phillips at 125-pounds, Terry Prowoznik at 135, Mike Kasper at 140, Justin Desjardin at 152, Rob Duszynski at 171, Shawn Rawson at 189 and Matt Behnke at 215.
Richie Hutchinson and Jeromy Northrop also picked up six-point victories as they received forfeits from the Tigers.
Dowagiac's Keith Prak won by decision at 130-pounds.
Benton Harbor's 15 points were the result of two pins and a decision.
Dowagiac and Benton Harbor split six junior varsity matches on Thursday night.
The Chieftains picked up victories with Robert Wescott and Adam Emerson.
Wescott pinned Travis Shoemake in 49 seconds and then pinned Deonte Baptist in 1:37.
Emerson pinned Emanual Clark in 1:30.
Benton Harbor got wins from Monteese Johnson against Drew Staley at 189, Demoriao Rittma at heavyweight and Larry Jones at heavyweight.
The Chieftains return to action on Saturday at they host their own invitational tournament (see related story above).
Wrestling is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m.
