Dowagiac Board of Education acted Monday night to correct a $41,382 acoustical tile oversight in construction documents for the new middle school performing arts center.
Fanning/Howey architect Scott Winchester informed the district prior to the meeting that construction documents should either have included acoustical panels in the roofing material in the decking itself or loose panels to be affixed to the bottom during construction.
Davis said the mistake was detected "when they were checking each other's work."
Some urgency attaches to the snafu because "they have to go in and install those now - and that performing arts center ceiling is way up there - before they get to the last stage of that room.
Davis said the administration was required to bring this change order before the school board because $41,382 "is over and above what Larry and I have been authorized to sign" without approval, $25,000.
Board members met in closed session on an undisclosed property transaction.
The board adopted a policy authorizing electronic transfers to comply with P.A. 738 of 2002.
Family and medical leaves were approved for: Bonnie Lloyd, McKinley Elementary; Kathryn Erickson, Kincheloe Elementary; and Jamie Ely, Justus Gage Elementary.
