Host Niles loses in semifinals of Round Robin tournament

Niles went 7-1 in the opening rounds of its home round robin tournament Saturday, but lost in three sets in semifinal action.
The tournament, featuring Bloomingdale, Bridgman, Decatur and Marcellus, featured four rounds of preliminary play. Each school played the others, and the top four moved on to play in a bracket.
In the finals, Bridgman defeated Marcellus 25-15, 20-25, 15-10.
The Vikings split a pair of sets with Bloomingdale to start the day, winning 25-15 in the first set, but falling 19-25 in the second. Niles played Marcellus in round two, winning 25-7, 25-22.
Niles then beat Decatur 26-24, 25-13, and Bridgman 25-16, 25-16. The Vikings fell in the semifinals 17-25, 25-17, 8-15.
Claire Molnar led the Vikings in total points on Saturday with 33. Dagmar Hoffman was next with 26 points. Hoffman totaled 16 kills to lead Niles in the category. Brittney Passig had seven kills.
Karly Kennedy scored 14 points on the day for Niles, including four aces and four kills. She led the Vikings with 10 digs. Kaylee Bonner also had 14 points for Niles.
Melissa Olsen led the team in blocks with four.
The Vikings visit Lakeshore at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
