Dowagiac volleyball team takes 2nd

The Dowagiac varsity volleyball team finished second in the Silver Tournament at the Gull Lake Invitational on Saturday.
Complete results were unavailable at press time.
Dowagiac lost to Hudsonville in the Silver Tournament finals.
First-year coach Carl Greulich said that his team made a lot of fundamental mistakes which hurt the squad's chances of doing better.

JV volleyball
The Dowagiac junior varsity volleyball team missed qualifying for the playoff round of the Coloma Invitational on Saturday by five points.
Dowagiac and the host Comets each had three victories in pool play, however, because Coloma scored 18 points compared to 13 points in its match against the Chieftains, the Comets advanced.
Dowagiac was swept by the Lady Beavers, 25-13 and 25-14.
Dowagiac split with Coloma, winning 25-18 and losing 25-13.
In its final match of pool play, Dowagiac defeated Benton Harbor 25-7, 25-13, 13-25, 14-25.
Statistically for the Chieftains against Eau Claire, Allison Frontczak had two kills and two aces. Jill Wiesemes had two assists, while Calie Daniels and Amber Clark each had two aces. Sarah Shelton added a block.
Against the Lady Comets, Frontczak finished with four kills and four aces. Clark and Daniels each had seven digs, while Katy Stuppy led the team in assists.
In the Benton Harbor match, Shelton had three kills and nine aces. Wiesemes finished with two assists.
Dowagiac returns to action tonight when it hosts Buchanan in an non-conference match.
The Chieftains and Bucks are scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
