EDWARDSBURG - The Eddies opened the 2004-05 campaign with an impressive non-conference victory over Bloomingdale Tuesday night.
Edwardsburg (1-0) opened the first quarter with a run-in-gun offense, which featured an impressive inside game, and lightning fast attacks to the hoop. The Eddies took an 19-8 lead in the first quarter, but the Cardinals hit some key jumpers to narrow the gap.
Eddies led after the one quarter 25-13.
The second quarter was dominated by the Eddies with numerous steals that led to fast break baskets.
The Eddies led 34-19 at the 3:43 mark, and outscored the Cardinals 16-6 to end the first half.
Eddies led 41-19 at the intermission.
The third and fourth quarters consisted of the same up tempo play by Edwardsburg.
It took a convincing 24-point lead at the 5:28 mark of the third quarter, and led after the end of the period, 63-38.
Edwardsburg in the fourth quarter seemed to wear down the Cardinals with its strong defense that forced turnovers and created fast break opportunities which resulted in baskets.
"I'm proud of the kids," Edwardsburg coach Jeff Kozinski said. "We were ready to play for the opener," he added.
Nick Roth led the Eddies in scoring with 19 points, Anthony Hayes swished in 15, and Nick Finley added 12.
Steve Gowen and Doug Shuttleworth each had 10 points.
Dante Bray of Bloomingdale had 21 points to lead all scorers. Mark Parsley and Brian Hill each had 11 points for the Cardinals, no other players were in double figures.
The Eddies will host Constantine Saturday at 5 p.m.
