The Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs (MCACA) has recently announced the awarding of $13,300 to the Dowagiac Dogwood Fine Arts Festival to support its work on behalf of fine arts.
The grant was awarded through the MCACA Peer Review Process and was one of nearly 400 applications to compete for MCACA fiscal year 2005 funding.
The Dogwood Fine Arts Festival has brought nationally renowned fine arts to southwestern Michigan for thirteen years. Dance, music, storytelling, fine arts, and a visit by a major author are the key events in the weeklong May festival.
The festival was honored last spring by the Michigan Association of Community Arts with its prestigious Great Lakes Community Arts Award.
This award is given to organizations whose projects and efforts demonstrate outstanding dedication and commitment to the arts.
The MCACA grant will help support the 2005 program featuring author Sara Paretsky, The Hohner Institute of Percussion, sculptor Nina Akamu and storyteller Dan Keding.
Organizations receiving a MCACA grant are required to match those funds with other public and private dollars.
Recent supporters of the Dogwood Fine Arts Festival have been the St. Denys Foundation, the National Endowment for the Arts, the Michigan Humanities Council, Heartland Arts Fund and numerous local individuals and corporate donors.
Membership, programming and donation information can be obtained by calling the Dogwood Fine Arts Festival headquarters at 269-782-1115 or by visiting www.dogwoodfinearts.org.
