CASSOPOLIS - Cass County Sheriff Joe Underwood encourages all area businesses and individuals to support Project Blue Light during the holiday season.
The idea came from Dolly Craig, whose son-in-law Daniel Gleason, a Philadelphia police officer, was killed in the line of duty. She put a blue light in her window in his memory.
The idea spread and now many communities recognize those who risk their lives to keep us safe with blue lights during the holiday season. In Cass County, its own Deputy Shane Britton died in an automobile accident in 200, enroute to assist another officer.
A Memorial for Britton at the Cass County Sheriff's Office and Correctional Facility will be display blue lights.
Officers on patrol will be encouraged and will appreciate this way of homeowners to remember those in law enforcement who keep our neighborhoods safe, Underwood said.
