Police release Sturgis crash victim’s name

CASSOPOLIS - Police Chief Frank Williams Jr. reports his department and the Cass County Sheriff's Office are jointly investigating a fatal four-car crash that happened at 12:40 p.m. Tuesday on E. State Street in the village.
Herbert Anthony Ornstedt, 79, of Sturgis, died from injuries sustained in the accident east of the railroad tracks.
All other names were withheld. The Cass County Prosecutor's Office was awaiting police reports so it can review the case.
Cassopolis Police Department was assisted by Cassopolis Area Ambulance, Casopolis Fire Department, Dowagiac ambulance and Edwardsburg ambulance at the scene.
Chief Assistant Prosecutor Jason Ronning said this morning Ornstedt was outside of his vehicle in front of Midwest Energy Cooperative, westbound into the village on M-60 before the train tracks, when a second collision occurred.
