Niles' golfer Ben Landgraf has been named to the All-State team and the All-State Academic Team by the Michigan Interscholastic Golf Coaches Association.
Landgraf won the Division 2 state championship this year. His selection to the All-Academic Team was based on his 4.0 GPA and his ACT scores. He was one of 16 players from Division 2 to make the All-Academic Team.
Niles, as a team, placed second in the state for the All-Academic team. The Vikings' combined GPA of the five players they took to regionals was 3.63. Niles finished second to Allegan's mark of 3.71.
The five players that played for Niles at regionals were Landgraf, junior Scott Majerek and freshmen Alex Welch, D.J. Wolnick and Jeff Jurgonski.
The two honors are the first time Landgraf, a senior, has received All-State recognition. The team's All-Academic Team runner up is also the first time one of Gunder's teams has received the honor.
Niles was one of six schools in Division 2 to get an All-Academic award.
Landgraf will be awarded a plaque for each All-State honor at a banquet held in East Lansing on Nov. 19.
The school will receive a certificate for the All-Academic Team award.
