Brandywine's Kalie Newman came out on fire Thursday to lead the Bobcats to a 45-34 victory over Coloma at home. It was Brandywine's first victory in two weeks.
Newman hit three 3-pointers in the openning quarter on her way to 20 points in the game. Thursday was the second time in three games Newman has scored 20 or more points.
In that first quarter, Brandywine took a 16-4 lead over the Comets. The Bobcats pushed their lead to 25-10 by halftime.
Newman hit her fourth 3-pointer of the night in the third quarter, but Coloma closed to within 11 points by the end of the period. The Comets would get no closer, however, losing by the same margin.
Jami Walters led Coloma with 11 points, followed by Kachina Blackmore's 10.
Newman was the only scorer in double-figures. Her 20 points came on eight field goals, including her four 3-pointers. Rachel Batman was Brandywine's second leading scorer with eight points.
The victory moves Brandywine to 4-10 over all and 3-8 in the Lakeland Conference. Coloma is now 7-9 and 6-5 in conference. The Bobcats play again Monday at home against River Valley.
