DOWAGIAC - Dowagiac Police Chief Tom Atkinson reports that officers from his department received injuries while making a warrant arrest on a wanted subject.
Officers received information that the suspect was at his residence in the City of Dowagiac. When officers arrived, they were admitted by a female subject who allowed them to check the house.
The suspect was found in the basement of the residence.
He resisted officers' attempts to make the arrest and, after a prolonged struggle, ran from the residence.
Niles' canine unit was called to the scene and successfully tracked the suspect to his hiding spot in a ravine about a block and a half from the residence. He was taken into custody there.
The suspect and the officers were treated at Borgess-Lee Memorial Hospital and released.
The suspect was then lodged in the Cass County Jail on the warrant, as well as charges of resisting, obstructing and assaulting police officers. Police withheld the name of the suspect pending arraignment.
