Cassopolis came to Brandywine with two things in mind Tuesday - stay focused and win a ball game. The Rangers accomplished both with a 67-25 defeat of the Bobcats.
The Rangers started off the game strong, hitting two 3-pointers within the first three minutes of the game. Their quickness caused Brandywine to get into foul trouble early in the game.
Brandywine also had crucial turnovers that could have lead to points. The Bobcats trailed by 14 ending the first quarter 21-7.
Brandywine struggled again in the second with fouls, turnovers and a lot of missed shots. It seemed the Bobcats were going to remain scoreless in the second, but scored their first and only basket with 2:23 in the half. Cassopolis, on the other hand, dominated the boards both offensively and defensively. The Rangers ended the second quarter with a huge 43-10 lead.
The third quarter stayed the same as the first two with Cassopolis dominating and Brandywine causing more turnovers.
Kalie Newman hit her first and only 3-pointer of the night 6:32 into the quarter. The Rangers stayed ahead by more than 30 points the entire third and ended it with a 57-20 lead.
The final quarter looked to be scoreless again for the Bobcats. Cassopolis, however, hit almost every shot it attempted and held on to a lead of more than 40 points the last half of the quarter.
Kelli Konopka scored the first points of the fourth for the Bobcats hitting two free throws. Rachel Batman added another two points for Brandywine with 16 seconds and made 1-of-2 free throws with six seconds remaining.
The last minute effort from Brandywine wasn't enough for them to catch up and the Rangers walked away with a 67-25 victory, taking their record to 14-2.
Jealyn Foston and Kelsey Gordon both had 18 points for Cassopolis.
The tables were turned for Brandywine's junior varsity team, as they walked away with a 58-32 win over Cassopolis.
Brooke Allen had 13 points and 11 rebounds for the Bobcats. Ashton Stewart had 13 points, all of them from the free-throw line, for Cassopolis.
