Brandywine's girls' basketball team looked like it would earn its fourth victory Thursday at River Valley after it played one of its best first quarters of the season.
River Valley came back, however, to get 50-49 victory in the final minutes of the game.
The Bobcats' offense scored quickly and their defense lassoed the Mustangs, grabbing a 20-10 lead at the end of the period.
River Valley outscored Brandywine 17-7 in the second quarter, however, to knot the score at halftime.
The second half was almost dead-even. After still being tied at the end of three quarters, the Mustangs took their one-point lead in the fourth for the win.
Brandywine's Kalie Newman did her best to guide the Bobcats to victory. She scored 22 points, including Brandywine's only 3-pointer. Her point total was the highest for a Bobcat this season.
Kelli Zache was the second-leading scorer for Brandywine with nine points.
The Bobcats are now 3-9 and 2-7 in the Lakeland Conference. They sit in sixth place in the league. River Valley moves to 4-9 and 3-7 in the Lakeland.
