DUHS frosh, JV split with Bearcats

The Dowagiac freshmen and junior varsity basketball teams split a pair of games with visiting Battle Creek Central Tuesday night.
The freshmen dropped a 31-28 decision to the Lady Bearcats, while the junior varsity posted a 29-20 victory.

The Chieftains trailed 15-9 at the intermission, but outscored Battle Creek Central 10-6 in the third quarter to close the gap.
Dowagiac trailed 21-19 heading into the final eight minutes.
The Lady Bearcats outscored the Chieftains 10-9 in the final period to escape with the three-point victory.
Tanisha White led Dowagiac with eight points, while Kathleen Lindt scored six points. Katelyn Ernzen, Holly McCuddy and Sarah Shelton all scored four points.
JV basketball
The Dowagiac junior varsity basketball team got off to a quick start and then held on for the victory.
Dowagiac led 12-4 after one period of play and then 19-10 at the intermission.
Battle Creek Central outscored Dowagiac 6-3 in the third period to cut the lead to 22-16 heading into the final eight minutes.
Dowagiac, which scored most of its points early in each quarter, outscored the Lady Bearcats 6-3 in the final quarter to preserve the victory.
Beth Williams led Dowagiac with 11 points.
The Chieftains also got seven points from Kristy Cooper and four points from Amber Clark.
Dowagiac will head to St. Joseph on Thursday night for a Big 16 Conference West Division contest.
