Bobcats fall behind early, lose to Edwardsburg

The Bobcats never posed a serious threat to Edwardsburg Tuesday, as the Eddies won a 54-39 contest at Brandywine.
The Eddies took a 13-7 lead at the end of one quarter that grew larger as the game progressed. They went up by as many as 16 points before winning by the final 15-point margin.
The Bobcats were hurt by a four-point second quarter in which they scored just one field goal, a basket by Heather Knuckles.
The victory for Edwardsburg avenges a 13-point loss to the Bobcats earlier in the season. The Eddies fell 39-26 to Brandywine at home Sept. 14.
Kalie Newman led Brandywine in defeat, scoring a team-high 13 points. She hit two 3-pointers in the game. Ashley Antus finished with nine points for the Bobcats, including their only other 3-pointer.
The Eddies had two players in double-figures, led by Julie Harness with a game-high 19 points. She hit six field goals, including one 3-pointer, and made 6-of-6 free throws. Harness also had five steals.
Shelley Roberts scored 11 for Edwardsburg on the strength of a 7-of-8 performance from the line.
Lindsay Moellenbernot grabbed 12 rebounds to lead the Eddies in the category.
On the night, Edwardsburg enjoyed a large advantage at the line, hitting 19-of-25 free throws. Brandywine shot15 free throws, making eight of them.
The Eddies' edge from the line came thanks to Brandywine's 26 team fouls, 15 of which came in the second half as the Bobcats played from behind. Edwardsburg committed 15 team fouls in the game.
In junior varsity action Tuesday, Brandywine beat Edwardsburg 57-45. Kari Konopka scored 16 to lead the Bobcats.
Also in double figures for Brandywine were Kelly Konopka with 13 and Ashley Casey with 10.
Brandywine is now 3-8 with a 2-8 record in the Lakeland Conference. Edwardsburg improves to 6-8, 4-5 in conference.
The Bobcats play again Thursday at River Valley, while the Eddies take on Cassopolis on the road.
