CASSOPOLIS - Dr. Mary Elizabeth "M.E." Harper raised Cass District Library's profile to a prominent place in the community and advanced it technologically during seven years here.
She is leaving to direct Highlands Ranch, a library in the Douglas County, Colo., system.
The open house audience applauded the former village president.
Eileen Adams, vice president of the Cass District Library board from Howard Township, welcomed new Director Jennifer Ray.
Ray, of Cassopolis, and a Niles native, was interim direct of Cass District Library in 1997, the year Harper arrived.
For more than 13 years Ray was library media specialist and district media coordinator for the Berrien Springs Public Schools.
Adams announced a $100 contribution in her name to an animal adoption center in Denver, Colo., "in gratitude of your many years of service here and in recognition of your dedication to animal welfare. We wish you much success at your new position," Adams said.
