EDWARDSBURG - Inclement weather couldn't dampen the spirits of the Edwardsburg varsity football team and its fans Friday night as the Eddies posted a 28-6 victory over arch-rival Cassopolis.
Edwardsburg (3-4 overall, 2-3 LAC) jumped out to a 14-0 first half lead and then held off the Rangers in the second half.
Jeff Mortimore opened the scoring with a 3-yard run, while he made it 14-0 in the second quarter with a 2-yard run.
In the third quarter A.J. Broussard cut the Edwardsburg lead to 14-6 with a 13-yard pass from Paul Curtis.
However, Edwardsburg put the game out of reach with a pair of fourth quarter touchowns.
Rick Finley scored on a 14-yard pass from Steve Gowen, before Matt Peters capped the scoring with a 14-yard run.
Gowen was a perfect 4-for-4 in extra point attempts despite the wet and slippery conditions.
Cassopolis drops to 2-4 overall and 2-3 in the Lakeland Conference.
The Rangers host River Valley Friday night for homecoming, while Edwardsburg heads to Bridgman for another Lakeland Conference clash.
