Brandywine head coach Jim McNamara knew heading into Wednesday's Lakeland Conference soccer tournament game that his team would need to score to beat Berrien Springs.
McNamara got what he wanted. The Bobcats scored four times, their highest total of the tournament, in beating the Shamrocks 4-3 and taking fifth place in the conference.
Meanwhile, in Edwardsburg, the Eddies won a defensive struggle against Bridgman 1-0, to take the conference title.
Berrien Springs came into Brandywine with a big offense with high-scoring capability. The Bobcats knew the game could quickly turn into a shoot-out if they weren't careful.
On of the switches was moving Kyle Low from his normal defensive position to midfield. The change gave the Bobcats the needed boost, as Low scored the final two goals for Brandywine in the one-goal victory. They were the first goals of Low's career.
His two scores gave the Bobcats a two-goal advantage before Berrien Springs scored on a rebound goal late in the game.
Matt Wieger and Matt Duckett also scored for Brandywine, while Matt Beaver collected two assists.
Defensively, the Bobcats' John Stapleton did a good job holding the Shamrocks leading scorer in check, McNamara said.
Brandywine hosts Coloma in the first game of Districts at 5 p.m. Monday.
