EDWARDSBURG - The Lady Eddies captured their first home victory Tuesday night as they beat Berrien Springs 39-26 in a Lakeland Conference game. The Eddies dribbled out to an early lead in the first quarter and never allowed the Lady Shamrocks to get ahead. Edwardsburg had a 10-2 lead after the first quarter.
In the second quarter, Edwardsburg's man-to-man defense, with its full court press, caused Berrien Springs to commit fouls, as well as turnovers. This enabled Edwardsburg to utilize their inside game with Kerri Wood. The Lady Eddies took a 18-6 lead into the intermission.
As the third quarter began, Berrien Springs started to hit some of it's inside shots by opening up their offense and allowing the Eddies to make mistakes.
But it was too little, too late. The Lady Eddies led 27-14 after the third quarter and cruised on to victory.
The Lady Shamrocks were led in scoring by senior forward Samantha Cooper with 11 points, all in the second half. Heather Rodgers added five points, and Christine Drach added four points.
The Lady Eddies were led by senior forward Sarah Lange with 11 points, Kerri Wood with eight points, and Shelly Roberts adding six points.
Edwardsburg improves to 3-5 in conference play and 5-8 overall for the season. Berrien Springs falls to 1-7 in the LAC and 3-9 overall.
The Lady Eddies will now try to avenge a 39-26 loss to Brandywine earlier in the season, when they host the Bobcats next Tuesday night.
