Brandywine's boys beat River Valley in cross country on Monday, but lost to host Edwardsburg in a double-dual meet. The Bobcat girls lost to both Edwardsburg and River Valley in a meet that the Eddies dominated.
Brandywine's Brian Wieger and Dan Devos finished third and fourth in the boys' race, but almost two minutes separated the runners. Wieger finished in 19:07, while Devos came in at 21:05.
Jame Greenfield of Edwardsburg won the race by a wide margin, almost a minute ahead of second-place Michael Penninger, also of Edwardsburg.
The Bobcats lost 23-32 to the Eddies, but prevailed 26-29 over River Valley. Edwardsburg won both its meets, beating the Mustangs 21-34.
In the girls' race, Caylan Garrard was Brandywine's top runner, taking sixth play in a time of 26:54. Edwardsburg runners finished in the first five spots, guiding the Eddies to easy victories over both opponents.
The Bobcats lost 15-48 to Edwardsburg and 20-39 to River Valley in the girls' race.
There was a bit of controversy in the race, as a few of the runners in both races got lost on the trails at Southwestern Michigan College.
Brandywine head coach Jim Murray said a cone was placed on the trail before the start of the race. Some runners thought the cone was blocking the course and turned the wrong way.
Even some Edwardsburg runners got lost on their home course, Murray said.
