In the opening round of the Lakeland Conference soccer tournament, No. 5 seed Brandywine dropped a 5-2 decision to No. 4 seed River Valley on Saturday.
For the Mustangs, the victory avenges a loss to the Bobcats earlier in the season. On Sept. 7, Brandywine beat River Valley at home, 2-0.
The loss drops the Bobcats to 5-9-1 on the season and 3-3-1 in the conference. Brandywine now moves to the loser's bracket of the conference tourney, where it will host Cassopolis at 5 p.m. tonight.
Cass lost 6-1 to Edwardsburg in its first round game on Saturday.
Also in the conference tournament, Buchanan, the third seed, up-ended sixth-seeded Berrien Springs 2-1. The Bucks move on to face Bridgman in tonight's second round.
Buchanan's contest starts at 5 p.m. today at Bridgman. The No. 2 seed Bees won their opening round game, a 5-0 victory over Coloma. The winner of tonight's game moves into the championship round to face the winner of the Edwardsburg-River Valley matchup.
The highest Brandywine can finish is fifth place. If the Bobcats win, they face the winner of the Berrien Springs at Coloma contest on Wednesday.
