Niles' football team is winless no longer.
Battle Creek Lakeview, a 48-20 winner over the Vikings on Sept. 18, has announced that it will forfeit four games due to the use of an ineligible player.
The Spartans will also forfeit victories against Dowagiac and St. Joseph.
According to a story in Saturday's Battle Creek Enquirer, Brian Adkins, a transfer from Ohio who has since transfered to Holland, was declared ineligible when it was discovered that Lakeview had never completed an Educational Transfer Form for a one-time transfer student.
The error was discovered while completing the transfer paperwork for Adkins to Holland.
Lakeview, according to the story, plans to appeal to the Michigan High School Athletic Association, however, it knows that the MHSAA rarely overturns such cases.
The forfeit victory would give Niles a 1-5 overall record, while Dowagiac would improve to 2-4 and St. Joseph to 2-4.
