Eddies, Rangers suffer setbacks

BERRIEN SPRINGS - Visiting Cassopolis did everything but outscore host Berrien Springs Friday night in a key Lakeland Conference contest.
The Rangers (2-2, 2-1) dropped a 27-13 decision to the Shamrocks, who gave up just 135 yards rushing.
Berrien Springs (5-0, 3-0) rushed for 149 yards and threw for another 118 yards against the Rangers.
Jonathon Rodriquez gave the Shamrocks a 14-0 first quarter lead with touchdown runs of 16- and 1-yard.
Ryan Williamson made it 20-0 in the second quarter on a one-yard run before the Rangers came storming back.
Ashton Danzy cut the lead to 20-7 with a two-yard run and extra point kick.
The Rangers sliced the Berrien Springs advantage to 20-13 when Kenny Brown scored on a one-yard run.
Berrien Springs put the finishing touches on the victory in the fourth quarter when Shelby Wood scored on a 1-yard run with 2:12 remaining.
Danzy finished the game as the leading rusher with 110 yards on 16 carries. Williamson finished with 108 yards on 32 totes.

The third time was a charm for Buchanan placekicker Doug Summers as his 19-yard field goal lifted the Bucks to a 17-14 Lakeland Conference victory over host Edwardsburg on homecoming night.
Summers had his first kick blocked by the Eddies, but Buchanan recovered the ball and got another chance.
The Eddies blocked the kick again, this time, getting a roughing penalty which gave Summers another chance 15 yards closer.
This time Summers was true and the Bucks escaped Leo B. Hoffman Field with its undefeated record still in tow.
The game lived up to its billing, as the Eddies and the Bucks battled tooth and nail for four quarters.
Edwardsburg jumped out to a 7-0 lead on David Daniels' 40-yard run and extra point kick.
Buchanan (5-0, 3-0) tied the score at 7-7 in the second quarter as Dennis Williams scored on a 42-yard run and Summers kick.
Buchanan grabbed a 14-7 advantage in the third quarter as Williams scored again, this time on a nine-yard run.
Edwardsburg (2-3, 1-2) knotted the game at 14 when Steve Gowen connected with Scott Walker on a 50-yard scoring strike.
The game remained tied until Summers kick with no time remaining.
Defense was not a factor in the contest Friday night as both teams amassed over 300 yards in total offense.
In Buchanan's case, the Bucks gained 413 yards in total offense, including 393 yards rushing.
The Eddies rushed for 250 yards and threw for another 81 yards.
