Buchanan's girls' tennis team has been dominant of late, winning two matches last week to up its record to 8-0 this season.
All of Buchanan's players won big last week, but the play of two Bucks particularly impressed coach Cuppy Mace.
The No. 4 doubles team of Robyn Bahr and Leslie Niemier has gone 8-1 this season. The two went 2-0 last week, including a 6-0, 6-0 shut out of Cass.
Their play earned the duo Niles Daily Star Female Athletes of the Week honors for Sept. 12-18.
Mace said she's impressed with Bahr and Niemier because both are new to the sport.
Niemier, a senior, transfered to Buchanan this year from St. Joseph Catholic in South Bend, Ind. She'd never played tennis competitively before she joined the team this summer.
Bahr, a sophomore, played on the junior varsity team as a freshman, but had no varsity experience.
Niemier said the transition to tennis was made easier by her other sport, volleyball.
Bahr said that moving up to varsity was tough because of the improved competition, but practicing against the Bucks everyday has helped her get better.
