NILES - Due to a number of complaints from customers and owners of downtown businesses, the Niles City Police Department will begin enforcing the posted two-hour parking restrictions in the downtown area.
Beginning Monday, police will make regular passes on Main, Second, Third, and Fourth streets to make sure the two-hour spots are seeing a regular turnover of cars.
People using the two-hour spots all day has been a problem for a while, Huff said, but now the problem has to be addressed.
Police will be marking tires on vehicles in the two-hour spots. If they're still there after a couple of hours, the vehicles will be ticketed, Huff said.
A citation for violating the two-hour parking restriction costs $40.
Huff said downtown business employees should park in the public lots located throughout the downtown area.
On Sept. 7 and 8, police distributed warning notices to as many vehicles as possible concerning the two-hour restrictions, and issued some citations on Sept. 9.
The two-hour parking restrictions only apply where posted.
